Curated guide
Best Classical Homeschool Curriculum
6 curricula in this guide
Classical education organizes learning around the trivium — grammar (elementary), logic (middle school), and rhetoric (high school) — with heavy emphasis on Latin, great books, and Western intellectual tradition. Modern classical programs vary widely in implementation, from rigorous Latin-heavy programs to community-based co-op models.
Our top picks span the major implementations. Memoria Press and Veritas Press offer the most rigorous traditional programs. Classical Conversations runs the largest community-based model with weekly meetups. Most classical programs are Christian — secular classical options exist but are rare. Pick based on whether you want a fully scripted program, a community co-op, or a curated reading list approach.

Common questions
Frequently asked
What is classical homeschooling?
An approach built on the trivium: a grammar stage focused on memorizing foundational facts, a logic stage focused on analysis and argument, and a rhetoric stage focused on expression and persuasion. In practice it usually also means Latin, chronological history, primary sources over textbooks, and a heavy reading load.
Do we have to teach Latin?
Not strictly, though most classical programs include it and many consider it central. The stated arguments are English vocabulary, grammatical structure, and access to primary texts. Plenty of families run a classical approach with a modern language instead, and the method survives the substitution.
Is classical education too rigorous for an average student?
The method scales more than its reputation suggests. Memory work in the early years is genuinely achievable for most children, and the logic and rhetoric stages can be pitched at the student in front of you. Where families struggle is usually the reading volume, which can be adjusted without abandoning the approach.
How does classical differ from classical Christian?
Classical Christian adds an explicit theological framework, typically including Bible, catechism, and a providential reading of history, on top of the trivium method. Secular classical programs use the same pedagogy without the theology. Both exist and are well developed.
